The Allen County-Scottsville High School JROTC Patriot Raider teams have started the fall competition season with two strong performances in Raider events in Louisville and Dry Ridge.
The Patriot Raider team’s first competition was September 15 at Southern High School in Louisville. AC-S faced 38 teams in the all day event. The Patriot Raider team took first place in the boat run event and second in the water carry event.
“We competed in 15 events which challenged the Raiders mental, physical, and leadership abilities,” explained JROTC instructor Col. Ron Turner. “The events ranged from the cross country run to strategizing how to overcome obstacles.”
Saturday, September 15, AC-S took three Raider teams to Grant County High School in Dry Ridge for their second event of the year.
“This event was very similar to the one at Southern except the obstacle course was a two-mile run with obstacles placed within,” Col. Turner added. “In order to overcome these obstacles, it took a greater amount of mental, physical, and leadership skills.”
At days end, the Patriot Raider teams brought home a first place trophy in map reading. In addition, Cadet Corporal Renee Beaulieu received the second runner-up high scorer for the APFT event.
“Renee is a natural born athlete,” Col. Turner said. “She scored a 270 out of a possible 300 on the APFT. She was contending with 100 other female cadets.”
In the APFT event, Beaulieu did 52 push-ups in two minutes, 70 set-ups in two minutes and ran two miles in 16 minutes.
“I love JROTC,” explained Beaulieu, a freshman at AC-SH. “I driven by the scripture verse, ‘I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.’”
The next scheduled Raider event in which AC-S will participate will be Saturday, October 20 at Fort Knox. Patriot Raider teams also have a competition on October 27 at Jamestown Tennessee.
