The Allen County-Scottsville High School Future Problem Solving and Academic Teams earned high accomplishments at District competition last week at Barren County.

“The FPS team captured first place solely on their own for the first time since 1998,” explained Academic Team coach Adam Crabtree added. “They have tied with Glasgow in recent years (2022 and 2023) but this is the first time they have beaten Glasgow outright since 1998. Team members consist of Tristan McQuern, JoyDale Williams, Aiden Blankenship, Jack Smith, and Victor Palacios.”
The Quick Recall team placed second---for a second consecutive year---at the Governor’s Cup District Quick Recall tournament. Members of the participating team last week were Emma Gammons, Olivia Baird, Adleigh Edwards, Victor Palacios, Aiden Blankenship, and Logan Daniels.
The runner-up achievement was not without tense moments.
“ACS, despite losing to Barren County in the first round in overtime, fought back in the third round to beat Barren County by a single point in another thrilling round of Quick Recall,” noted Crabtree.

Logan Daniels was fourth in Science, James Fisher finished fourth in Social Studies, Olivia Baird placed third in Social Studies, Katelyn Ausbrooks was fifth in Language Arts, JoyDale Williams was fifth in Arts & Humanities, and Emma Gammons placed fourth in Arts & Humanities and fifth in Composition writing.

The AC-SH Academic Team will be in competition Saturday February 1 at the Sumner County Invitational at Gallatin High School---a very prestigious event featuring a large number of academic teams. .
“This is a NAQT quiz bowl style tournament that will include teams from all over Tennessee and Kentucky,” Crabtree explains. “ACS will field three teams in this tournament and will begin with a pool play format in the morning followed up with a bracket in the afternoon.”
On Monday, February 17, the FPS team and composition members will compete in regional competition. On Saturday, February 22, the High School Content Assessments and Quick Recall will be in regional competition. Both events are at AC-SHS.
